The Salmons moved to Northern Minnesota in the winter 2023 and realized how many equines were in need of proper care and rehabilitation. With 20 years of experience caring for high performance horses we knew we could make a difference in the lives of animals located in the Northern Minnesota area.
Salmon Family Farms is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating neglected equines throughout the Northern Minnesota area.
Jack is a 20 year-old registered quarter horse. In the past, he was used for elk hunting in Montana and Colorado. As well as a mounted posse horse that was used for search and rescue and crowd control!
His previous owners sold him to a lady who worked at a small animal vet clinic on July 12, 2024 and thought he would be in brilliant hands. (We would’ve thought that too!) Within three months he went from being happy, loved and properly cared for. To skin bones and completely emaciated.
Jack was posted on Facebook and we knew we had to jump in to help. We went and got him October 14, 2024 within 4 hours of the post! The owner surrendered him to us and now he’s on his new journey to recovery.
Since we have picked Jack up we have been in constant contact with our amazing vet! With him being in the condition he is, we are following the UC Davis re-feeding protocol and he is under around the clock care.
Jack is the sweetest boy you could ever meet and it’s been very hard for us to comprehend how you could let this sweet boy get into this condition… We have a long road ahead, but an amazing tribe to help us along this journey!
