Iron Range Equine Sanctuary at Salmon Family Farms is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating neglected equines throughout the Northern Minnesota area.

The Salmons moved to Northern Minnesota in the fall 2023 and realized how many equines were in need of proper care and rehabilitation. With 20 years of experience caring for high performance horses we knew we could make a difference in the lives of animals located in the Northern Minnesota area.

Jack’s Progress

Recap: Jack is a 20 year-old registered Quarter Horse. Upon arrival to the sanctuary Jack was skin and bones and completely emaciated. He was posted on Facebook and we knew we had to jump in to help. We went and got him October 14, 2024 within 4 hours of the post! The owner surrendered him to us and now he’s on his new journey to recovery. Since we have picked Jack up we have been in constant contact with our amazing vet! With him being in the condition he was we followed the UC Davis re-feeding protocol and he was under around the clock care. Since arrival Jack has gained about 300 pounds In his first 115 days at IRES.

We are currently waiting until the spring to haul him to a specialist to have his teeth looked at. That gives Jack more time to put on more weight as well as more muscle to be able to haul him safely.

His personality is really starting to come out! He loves to roll and to sunbathe out in the pasture. He also loves to make sure all of the feed pans in the barn are clean!

Stay tuned for more updates on Jack!
